The American Stage
I tried several photos of red curtains for this jacket, but they made the book resemble a biography of a stand up comic rather than a scholarly collection of essays. When I found a book on medieval furniture with an engraving of bed curtains, it worked perfectly. It sets up the cover, without being too ordinary. The type design is a reinterpretation of old playbills. Originally, the printed inner case had the author’s names set in a variety of fonts mingling with engravings of fanciful characters. Sadly, budget cuts eliminated this lovely addition to the package.
